The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly. – Buddha
My mind, like many others, was always wondering. I was constantly worrying about something that happened in the past, or worrying about something that might happen in the future (but most likely never did). I was attached to people and possessions and had a difficult time accepting change. As I got older, this truly became a struggle and I knew that there had to be more to this life. I began experiencing a great deal of pain and discomfort. My mother introduced me to her teacher at the American Meditation Institute, Leonard Perlmutter. It was very healing and inspiring experience. From there I began practicing yoga as well. That’s when the magic truly began to unfold. Even in all the chaos and confusion of life, there was one thing I was sure about, and that was that I wanted to explore yoga and meditation.
I have always been interested in the philosophy and science behind yoga. Once my meditation and asana practice became more consistent my whole life changed. I felt like I had woken up for the first time and was surrounded by beauty and love. My mind began slowing down, and slowly each day my life was improving. I gained control over my thoughts and realized that I had the power to decide which thoughts were true.
I enjoy the peaceful, inspirational, happy atmosphere of YogaVermont. Taking Kathy McNames’s yoga instructor course has really opened my eyes to a variety of ways that yoga can be incorporated into my everyday life and relationships. As you follow your own body and mind through this transition, it is truly beautiful to watch unfold. It has created a strong desire within my heart to help others.
I am so blessed to have such a supportive family throughout my life journey. They have always been there by my side and never asked questions, just continually offered love, compassion, support, and understanding. There is so much more to learn and so much more room to grow. I’m on life’s journey to find out, and I am so grateful to be surrounded by all of you.
