Sara came to Vermont from Pennsylvania in February 2003 to sweep the floors of Yoga Vermont in exchange for classes. By February 2nd, Liza and Kath had taken her under their wing as friend, family and Yoga Vermont girl Friday. Though she's never escaped sweeping the occasional floor.
After wandering into a yoga class at her local gym in 2001, Sara knew that yoga was exactly what was missing from her life. The teacher, Jen Logosso became instrumental in exposing Sara to ashtanga (they'd carpool 45 minutes a couple times per week to an ashtanga studio) and gently nudging her in the direction of teaching (by becoming pregnant and basically making Sara take over her classes).
Sara continued practicing ashtanga five days a week with Erica Sulzer and eventually attend David Swensons teacher training.
After a weekend workshop at YVT in the summer of 2002 with Nancy Gilgoff, Sara knew she had found her new home. Upon arriving back in Burlington six months later she began training with Kathy. Since then she's worked with Seane Corn, Shiva Rea, Tim Miller, Dharma Mittra, Manju Jois, David Williams and all the wonderful teachers at YVT.
More than being in a class under these wonderful instructors, Sara is struck by what amazing, inspiring, down to earth individuals they are while out to lunch, sitting outside in the summer sun, goofing around in the office before class starts, and even while shopping. She's learned that the most profound moments come when you least expect them.
Sara is the mama to a spunky, flexible two year old boy and insists that having a (semi) regular yoga practice is helpful to gain the patience it takes to potty train, the arm strength it takes to haul around 25 pounds with one arm while you do everything else with the other, and that time moves too fast to not enjoy yourself as often as possible.
Her partner, Bobby has taken one yoga class, ever, but she's confident she can do enough for the both of them though it may have to wait until their son is 30 or so.
Sara's vinyasa classes are dynamic enough for intermediate students while at the same time accomodating to the beginner with thorough verbal instruction and encouragement.
Since the birth of her son in 2005, she's felt the absence of karaoke nights in her life and instead takes to chanting for her students while in savasana and for her son at bedtime. It may not be the time or place for Journey tunes, but she's gotten nothing but positive feedback from her sweet students and a very musical toddler.
