course overview

  • Eight hours of classes per day including practice, study and sharing.

  • This will be conducted in 2 Daily Four-Hour Sessions.

course content

  • Traditional Sanskrit Counting for the Full Primary Series.

  • Adjustments and Teaching Techniques for Second Series.

  • Pranayama and Bandhas Study: This will consist of a daily practice of the first levels of traditional Ashtanga pranayama methods as taught by Pattabhi Jois as well as learning methods of safely and effectively teaching students about these ethereal realms of the practice.

  • Philosophy of Patanjali: Research and Discussion of Pantanjali’s Eight Limbs and other Philisophical aspects of Ashtanga Yoga will be an integral part of the training with students presenting their understandings for the group.

  • Daily Practice will consist of either Mysore-Style or Traditional Sanskrit Led Classes supervised by David.

  • Community Outreach is an optional segment of the course. This will depend upon the hosts and availability of regional organizations with which we may coordinate a program to spread the prana gained from practice and move it out into the world and local community. Details will be announced closer to the event.

  • Participants for the Next Level training should have already completed David’s 40 Hour First Series Training Course. If however, they have not completed his 40 Hour Course yet have attended Ashtanga Training Courses with other teachers they may submit a practice and training history and their application will be considered.

  • It is imperative that the participants should have a consistent practice of Ashtanga Yoga in order to attend. The prerequisites are more stringent for this level of training. They should already be familiar with second series and be practicing AT LEAST up to Pinch Mayurasana.

  • Since a good amount of this course is designed to learn the teaching techniques and adjustments for Second Series it is important to have practiced up to that point as a minimum. The practice of the asanas does not have to be “perfect” yet they must have been practicing second series consistently prior to the training.
