Larry White began studying Yoga in 1986. At that time, Larry was "addicted"
to exercise and a friend suggested taking a Yoga class to counter the stress
produced by excessive exercising. The more he practiced and read about Yoga
while enjoying the positive influences of Yoga practioners, the more his
interest in Yoga grew until he had a desire to teach it about 8 years later.
The majority of Larry's training and practice is focused on the Iyengar
style. In his quest for more experiences and knowledge he traveled around
the world to places such as Jamaica, Bali, Italy, Netherlands, and England
to study with such notable teachers like Patricia Walden, Rodney Yee, Mary
Dunn, John Friend and Joan White.
Larry believes that practicing Yoga can bring balance and harmony to one's
life by providing tools to cope with the demands of everyday living.
"Actions as simple as breathing and eye movements and as intricate as sun
salutations and head stands increase awareness of one's body." By using
gravity and alignment, he believes that one can gain a sense of balance and
equilibrium, serenity and peace. He also uses props such as belts,
bolsters, blankets, chairs, and walls to assist in maintaining alignment and
balance while practicing postures.
Larry is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and an Addiction Counselor and
frequently recommends Yoga to his clients who may be dealing with
depression, sleeping disorders, anxiety, alcoholism, or other related
maladies.
